The radiation dosimetry lab operates under the auspice of the Medical Physics Lab of the Medical School, University of Athens. It is staffed by four faculty members, as well as and students in all stages of research work (post doctoral and doctoral researchers, students performing their MSc or diploma thesis) drawn mainly from an inter-university MSc program on Medical Physics and the Physics Dept where faculty members teach classes.

The variety of research interests and expertise of its staff, renders the lab capable of overcoming the research challenges στις arising from the truly interdisciplinary nature of ionizing radiation clinical applications that rely heavily on physics, as well as computer science, mathematics, radiation biology, and electrical and mechanical engineering.

The radiation dosimetry lab has pioneered the use of 3D polymer gel dosimetry in radiation therapy, has successfully concluded numerous national and bilateral, international, research projects on the subject of dosimetric verification using three dimensional computational and experimental dosimnetry methods, and has accomplished research projects under appointment from international medical radiation technology providers (inter alia: original dosimetry of new brachytherapy sources for: Nucletron – an Elekta companyVarian Medical Systems, and Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG, experimental dosimetry of a new collimator of the CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery system for Accuray, independent dosimetric accuracy verification of a new brachytherapy treatment planning system for Varian Medical Systems).

Feel free to navigate through the content of the radiation dosimetry lab site.
