Experience from the independent validation of the first TPS incorporating a MBDCA has shown that virtual phantoms and actual patient test cases are complementary tools. A number of test cases will be prepared from virtual phantoms written to DICOM CT images and patient cases selected from the previous action, for different sites. These will be made available over the web along with corresponding reference dose distributions calculated using Monte Carlo simulation for treatment plans employing source types most widely used from all vendors, and documentation for replicating the treatment plans for the test cases in any commercial TPS. An open source software application will be developed and freely distributed over the web, wherein treatment plans from any commercial TPS, exported using the DICOM RT protocol, can be imported and compared to the reference dose distributions. Development will be based on DICOM RT IODs (RT Image, RT Dose, RT Structure Set, RT Plan) for comparisons in terms of isodose curves/points and Dose Volume Histograms, as well as gamma index maps.
